How can educators use Black youth life histories and experiences to inform their mindset, curriculum, and pedagogical practices? In this keynote presentation, Dr. Lamar Johnson will discuss how Critical Race English Education (CREE) promotes the (re)imagining of language and literacy education for all students.

Dr. Johnson’s commitment to equity, justice, and inclusion extends through his coaching, facilitation, research, teaching, and outreach. He is an author and interdisciplinary scholar with extensive experience creating and executing programs that are grounded in racial and linguistic justice. His work includes developing antiracist coaching sessions and workshops that promote racial, linguistic, and educational justice for racially and linguistically diverse students across PreK-12 and postsecondary settings. These include coaching services and curriculum audits for school districts and higher educational spaces in South Carolina, New York, Tennessee, Michigan, and Ohio. His book Critical Race English Education calls for the transformation of English education to embrace Black culture, people, and language.
